We Built This City On Rock & Roll
// // Sunday, October 10, 2004 // //

rilo kiley covered the postal services' such great heights at the show last night! is it really a cover since jenny lewis actually sings on the original? whatever you want to call it, call me blown away.

when i find a recording i will definately post it. that was obviously the highlight of the show, although the rest of the show was wonderful as well. i realized a few things about rilo. first, this guy is absolutely spot on with his observation that the truly magnetic quality about rilo is their "amateurish" humble insecurity on stage contrasted against their undeniable talent, intoxicating harmonious sound, and smart lyrics. the other thing i noticed is that their fan base is mostly highschool emo'ers. where does that come from?

death cab mp3
next, death cab for cutie finally got up on stage and played with pearl jam last night in kissimmee, florida. here is a recording of ben and chris sitting in on timeless melody, a la's cover. (right-click and save) i'm pretty pissed they didn't sit in at the shows i went to.

beastie boys
saw the beastie boys at msg tonight. they are, as always, a timeless classic. i believe the show is going to be released on dvd which will be nice since they played an excellent version of root down as well as 3 songs from "the in sounds from way out" which i don't think i've seen them play live before. of course the place went nuts when they did a letter to nyc and the classics paul revere and sabotage. not the best b-boys show i've seen, but i love those freakin jewish boys and their rap. let me get some action from the back section!

interpol

if you have been procrastinating, get yo ass to the interpol art exhibit on lafayette! it's got some ultimate art that oozes heavy rock and roll energy. definately worth the price of admission (free). but be careful cause when it came time for me to say goodbye i had to leave $55 behind. it seemed a fair exchange for an amazing silkscreen poster and a limited edition antics release of five 7" vinyls.
